Empleo del ácido ascórbico en el tratamiento del asma bronquial

Abstract

El ácido ascórbico es una vitamina hidrosoluble a la cual diversos autores atribuyen una acción antianafiláctica. En el presente trabajo se demuestra que elevadas concentraciones de ácido ascórbico carecen de acción estimulante o depresora sobre la fibra lisa muscular, pero son capaces de inhibir la acción estimulante de la liistamina y la serotonina sobre diversas preparaciones de órganos aislados altamente sensibles a dichas sustancias, no ocurriendo lo mismo cuando la estimulación fue provocada por la acetilcolina o la noradrenalina. Conjuntamente se observa que la administración de dosis elevada de ácido ascórbico a 45 pacientes asmáticos crónicos de ambos sexos y cualquier edad es capaz de suprimir el espasmo e hipersecreción bronquial durante la crisis asmática e inclusive prevenir la frecuencia de su aparición, sin efectos tóxicos para el organismo. Las complejas propiedades del ácido ascórbico hacen difícil determinar con exactitud cuál o cuáles de las mismas están implicadas en su acción terapéutica sobre el asma bronquial.
