Colitis ulcerativa idiopática. Revisión de 43 casos

Abstract

Esta enfermedad fue descrita por primera vez por Sir William Wilks y Moxan en 1875, quienes introdujeron el término de colitis ulcerosa. Su etiología hasta el momento actual sigue siendo desconocida. Múltiples han sido los factores a los cuales se les ha atribuido rol etiológico y así tenemos infección bacteriana, hongos y virus, enzimas proteolíticas,8>9 lizozima, factores neurogénicos, hipótesis colágena, factores nutritivos, alergia y, por último, los mecanismos autoinmunes. En estos momentos la teoría autoinmune es la única que tiene posibilidades en la etiología de esta enfermedad. Algunos investigadores44 han demostrado la presencia de anticuerposcirculantes contra extractos humanos de colon en pacientes con colitis ulcerativa, confirmando así los trabajos de Broberger y Perlman,* quienes, usando mucosa de colon de recién nacidos (a fin de excluir las bacterias) demostraron por primera vez la capacidad de este órgano para formar anticuerpos (relación con tejido linfoideo y células cebadas).
