Techno-stress in Teachers during the COVID-19 Pandemic and Implications of Distance Learning in the Sierra Region of Peru

Abstract

Introduction: Do to health emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic; changes were made to the education system globally, with new strategies such as distance learning being implemented. Through virtual platforms and other means of communication.

Objective: To identify factors associated with technostress in primary school teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: An observational-analytical cross-sectional study was conducted among primary school teachers working in public schools in a city in the Peruvian highlands during 2020. The RED-TIC questionnaire was used to assess technostress. Associated factors were evaluated using Poisson regressions.

Results: Out of 339 surveyed teachers, 45.43% reported a moderate to high level of technostress. Wishing to change professions (PR: 1.37; IC95% 1,06–1,77) and having access to the internet (PR: 0.74; IC95% 0,56–0,99) were significantly associated with moderate to high technostress.

Conclusions: We found that nearly half of the teachers experienced a moderate to high level of technostress, which was associated with a desire to change professions and having internet access, which is crucial for virtual education logistics.
