Abstract

Se hace una revisión de la intoxicación barbitúrica, dada la relativa frecuencia con que se presenta en la práctica clínica diaria. Se señalan algunas consideraciones teóricas de la acción farmacológica (sobre todo a nivel del S.N.C.) de estos psicofármacos. así como de sus formás clínicas de presentación. Se realiza una esquematización práctica de su manejo, y se hace énfasis en la utilidad de la diálisis peritoneal (DP.) y sus indicaciones precisas en tales cuadros. Se ilustra el presente trabajo con cuatro casos que fue necesario someter a procedimiento dializante; y se resalta la gran importancia de los cuidados intensivos, la impres-cindible actuación con criterio de equipo de trabajo, así como la casi ineludible presentación de complicaciones respiratorias y sus implicaciones evolutivas y pronosticas en estos casos.
