Efecto hipotensor del atenolol
Abstract
Se planiza que 96 pacientes hipertensos esenciales moderados, recibieron 100 mg diarios de atenolol en una dosis por vía oral una vez al día. Se comprobó que 67 pacientes tenían cifras normales de presión al final de cuatro semanas de tratamiento. El resto de los pacientes que permanecían con cifras elevadas, recibieron una dosis única por vía oral de50 mg de clortalidona adicional; en el examen final —8 semanas después del inicio— la presión arterial disminuyó significativamente de 170/110 mm Hg antes de comenzar el tratamiento a 142/88. Se señala que la frecuencia cardíaca también disminuyó significativamente de una media inicial de 79 a 67 latidos por minuto. Fueron informados muy pocos efectos secundarios. Se confirma el efecto beneficioso del atenolol en hipertensos moderados y su potente acción cuando es administrado en una dosis única diaria, como lo fue en nuestro grupo. Se recomienda para tratamientos a largo plazo.
