Abstract

Introduction: Sickle cell anemia is a systemic pleiotropic disease. Almost all organs are affected with his condition.  The forms of presentation of this disease vary.

Objective: To describe the main characteristics of the most frequent complications and comorbidities in sickle cell anemia.

Method: A literature review of articles published in the last 10 years on the most frequent complications and comorbidities in sickle cell anemia was carried out. Conclusion: The knowledge and differentiation of complications and comorbidities in sickle cell anemia allows the administration of appropriate therapies.
