Afectación vascular retiniana en la diabetes mellitus

Abstract

Se realizó un estudio prospectivo en 120 diabéticos escogidos al azar y se comprobó retinopatia en 62 pacientes (51,7%). Hubo predominio en pacientes del sexo femenino y mayores de 45 años de edad. No hubo relación entre la antigüedad de la diabetes y la presencia de retinopatia. El tipo de retinopatia que predominó en nuestro estudio fueron los tipos I y II. Se observaron en un porcentaje elevado de pacientes otras complicaciones diabéticas, en especial las de tipo vascular. Se encuentra que el mayor número de pacientes con retinopatia utilizaban como tratamiento COH, aunque quienes se trataban con insulina no estuvieron exentos de esta complicación. Se enfatiza en la influencia del control metabólico en esta complicación diabética.
