Intoxicación acuosa por carbamazepina

Abstract

Se describen tres pacientes que presentaron intoxicación acuosa durante la administración de carbamazepina, en los que posteriormente se comprobó una polidipsia psicogé- nica. El cuadro clínico se desarrolló al provocarse una antidiuresis rápida y potente, mientras los pacientes mantenían el hábito de tomar agua. Se destaca que el diagnóstico precoz y tratamiento adecuado permiten la recuperación rápida y total. Se sugiere que la administración de la carbamazepina debe comenzarse con dosis pequeñas, que se aumente lentamente para tratar de evitar esa complicación.
