Mediastinal Seminoma
Keywords:
medistino, seminoma, tumorAbstract
Germ cell tumors are neoplasms originating from a primordial germ cell with multipotent differentiation capacity. These tumors are typically classified by location and divided into gonadal and extragonadal GCTs. They are more common in white-skinned men and young people aged 20 to 35 years; they are very rare in women, and they are frequently malignant and symptomatic. The objective of presenting this case is to demonstrate that, despite being uncommon, seminoma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of anterior mediastinal tumors. We report the case of a 36-year-old male patient with facial edema and redness. Imaging studies revealed a tumor in the anterosuperior and middle mediastinum with a histological diagnosis of seminoma. The diagnosis of mediastinal tumors represents a challenge for both pulmonologists and pathologists. Biopsy is crucial, especially immunohistochemistry.
