Waist Circumference and Prognosis in Patients with Heart Failure

Abstract

Introduction: Heart failure and waist circumference are closely related, with pathophysiological foundations based on excess abdominal adipose tissue, which promotes systemic inflammation.

Objective: To update the relationship between waist circumference and the prognosis of chronic heart failure.

Methods: Determining waist circumference in the classification of obesity has been shown to increase mortality associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular disease.

Conclusions: Waist circumference measurement is easy to assess, inexpensive, and emerges as a useful marker in the prognostic evaluation of patients with chronic heart failure.
