Abstract

Following a neurological emergency, clinical outcomes are poorer for oncology patients, potentially leading to critical illness requiring admission to the Intensive Care Unit. Providing care in this context presents a clinical challenge due to the scarcity of evidence regarding the impact of neurological complications on cancer, as well as the absence of prognostic scales for mortality. For this vulnerable subpopulation, the need to convey the inherent uncertainty when predicting outcomes is underscored. Through this communication, the authors present relevant information regarding the utility and importance of establishing prognosis in patients with cancer and neurological complications, specifically by utilizing existing prognostic scales, and highlight the consequent necessity of creating and validating a dedicated instrument for this purpose.
