Abstract

Introduction: Shock is a syndrome characterized by generalized tissue hypoperfusion, with cellular hypoxia due to low oxygen delivery, increased consumption or inadequate use.

Objective: To develop a prediction model fork shock in patients admitted to intensive care.

Methods: An explanatory research was carried out with a prospective cohort design, of a shock prediction model, in 538 patients admitted to Intensive Care at the Hermanos Ameijeiras Clinical Surgical Hospital during the period from January 2017 to December 2022.

Results: The discrimination of the model was very good since the area under the ROC curve was 0.889. Most of the patients with shock were classified in the medium and high risk strata represented by 33.9% and 62.7%, respectively.

Conclusions: The estimation of the predictive model was useful for predicting the onset of shock in patients admitted to intensive care.
