Abstract
Las enfermedades vasculares del encéfalo constituyen uno de los más frecuentes tributos en las estadísticas de mortalidad y es, sin duda, la causa más frecuente de invalidez después de los 50 años. Hasta hace poco, la actitud del médico frente a estas afecciones era la de un espectador pasivo, cuando no incurría en actitudes terapéuticas basadas en explicaciones patogénicas de dudosas probabilidades.5 Neurólogo del Hospital Clínico Quirúrgico.
En la actualidad, una gran variedad de investigaciones en el campo de la Anatomía, Fisiología, Patología y Terapéutica, han hecho avanzar notablemente las posibilidades de estos enfermos, brindándonos mejores métodos para el diagnóstico y tratamiento, tanto de los casos agudos como en su prevención y en el manejo y rehabilitación de las secuelas neurológicas y psicológicas.
