Scientific Production of Internal Medicine Specialists at the Mario Muñoz Monroy Military Hospital of Matanzas

Introduction: The use of bibliometric analysis allows evaluating scientific production. This is an essential tool for assessing research results.
Objective: To characterize the scientific production of Internal Medicine specialists at Mario Muñoz Monroy Military Hospital in Matanzas.
Methods: A descriptive bibliometric study was conducted. As a sample, we used all certified medical journals and Google Scholar database containing publications by Internal Medicine specialists at Matanzas Military Hospital, from to the provincial chapter of the Cuban Society of Internal Medicine.
Results: Original articles constituted the most frequent publication type (n = 38), followed by case reports (n = 28) and letters to the editor (n = 27), the latter showing a bimodal distribution. The peak year for scientific production was 2018, with 17 publications. Articles authored by 3, 5, or 6 researchers were most common (n = 24). Vega Jiménez emerged as the most cited author (486 citations), while "Cardioatherogenic factors and cardiovascular risk in type 2 diabetes" received the most article citations (n = 48). The Cuban Journal of Military Medicine (n = 30) and Matanzas Electronic Medical Journal (n = 29) were the predominant publication respectively.
Conclusions: The characterization of scientific production constitutes a benchmark for improving the quality and scientific productivity of Internal Medicine specialists at Matanzas Military Hospital.
