Abstract

Introduction: Bioethics involves reflections on autonomous attitudes such as decision-making without coercion of values, based on the exercise of freedom, free of restrictions, preconceptions and with respect for divergences.

Objective: To analyze the bioethical aspects of care at the end of life.

Methods: A literature review was carried out in VHL; Lilacs, PubMed, SciELO and Ibecs databases, 22 relevant articles were identified.

Results: Respect for human dignity also in end-of-life processes is essential to understand dignified death as a continuation of a dignified life.

Keywords: bioethics; terminal patient; palliative care; orthothanasia; euthanasia; dysthanasia.
