Associated Diseases and Metabolic Indicators in Schizophrenic Individuals
Keywords:
schizophrenia, obesity, impaired glucose tolerance, diabetes, dyslipidemia.Abstract
Schizophrenia is a disease characterized by a psychopathological complexity, aggravated by frequent association of physical diseases such as obesity, glucose intolerance, diabetes and dyslipidemia. In addition, there are other metabolic indicators such as blood glucose, cholesterol and triglycerides which are relevant in these patients, and the international literature has been suggested so. On the other hand, both associated physical diseases and metabolic indicators have their impact on the central nervous system in addition to schizophrenia.
The sum of mental and physical disorders implies the need to address both problems simultaneously, which is why interdisciplinary intervention is recommended.
Hermanos Ameijeiras Clinical Surgical Hospital is an example of the action protocol for patients with schizophrenia and psychosis.
