Abstract

Keratoconus is a disease that causes progressive corneal thinning with significant reduction in visual acuity. The presence of excessively curved corneas is described in the literature in advanced stages, but it is rare that these extreme values are observed on a regular basis. We report the case of a 46-year-old male patient with an ophthalmological history of compound myopic astigmatism in both eyes. On physical examination by biomicroscopy of the anterior segment, he showed characteristic signs of keratoconus and the studies performed confirmed this diagnosis in advanced stages, with keratometry in extreme values. Early diagnosis and treatment of keratoconus can intervene in a timely manner both in its complications and in its progression, which was evident in the reported case.
