Abstract

 

Introducción: La Mediastinitis necrotizante descendente es una afección rara, grave y de pronóstico desfavorable. Se considera el cuadro clínico agudo no traumático más peligroso y rápidamente fatal que se presenta en la urgencia. Presenta un alto índice de mortalidad, que varía del 40 % al 60 %. El retraso en el diagnóstico y el drenaje incompleto son las principales causas de la elevada mortalidad de esta entidad.

Objetivo: Retroalimentar la práctica clínica a partir de las características clínicas y anatomopatológicas de un caso mediastinitis necrotizante descendente.

Presentación del caso: Se presenta un preescolar de un año que luego de cinco días de evolución tórpida caracterizados por fiebre, manifestaciones catarrales, irritabilidad e inapetencia, fallece con el diagnóstico pos mortem de mediastinitis necrotizante descendente.

Conclusiones: Se trazó como objetivo retroalimentar la práctica  clínica a partir de las características clínicas y anatomopatologicas de un caso de mediastinitis necrotizante descendente.
