Abstract

Se informa que la llamada “teoría de los lípidos" conforma un marco conceptual suficientemente documentado, que ha brindado aportes sustanciales al conocimiento de la aterosclerosis. Se muestran en la presente revisión (133 citas), los resultados más relevantes informados en la literatura científica más reciente, relacionados con el tratamiento de las hiperlipoproteinemias y la aterosclerosis. Se discute el posible papel de la hiperlipoproteinemia como factor de riesgo, en el desarrollo y progresión de la aterosclerosis, los enfoques terapéuticos que se han utilizado y la efectividad de los mismos en la detención o regresión del proceso aterosclerótico.
