La medicina de los behíques
Abstract
Se hace una breve descripción sobre las características del behíque, médico y hechicero de los tainos, la más avanzada de las tres civilizaciones primitivas que habitaron a Cuba. Aunque estos primeros pobladores fueron bárbaramente exterminados por los españoles y sus hábitos de vida y costumbres apenas fueron descritos por sus cronistas, no calie duda que en Cuba, al igual que en el resto de América, existió una medicina primitiva con algún grado de desarrollo, en la que el behíque recurría a sus conocimientos de herborística, habilidad quirúrgica y recursos de superchería y magia con resultados que no eran muy diferentes a los que podía ofrecer la medicina europea de su época.Downloads
