Alteraciones del metabolismo en la diabetes mellitus no insulino-dependiente
Abstract
Se revisan los conceptos actuales sobre las alteraciones del metabolismo en la diabetes mellitus no insulino-dependiente (tipo II) y en los pacientes con tolerancia a la glucosa alterada, basados en los resultados de las investigaciones del grupo de trabajo sobre Diabetes inicial" del Instituto Nacional de Endocrinología y Metabolismo. Estos pacientes se caracterizan por un síndrome metabólico que incluye disminución de la sensibilidad a la insulina por los tejidos periféricos, hiperinsulinemía, tolerancia a la glucosa alterada e hipertrigliceridemia; el grado variable en que ocurren estos trastornos en los diferentes sujetos, determina la gran heterogeneidad de este grupo de pacientes. Las relaciones mutuas entre estos trastornos metabólicos, sus posibles causas y su relación con la obesidad, constituye el principal tema de investigación en este campo.Downloads
