The Cuban Journal of Medicine is the scientific body of official dissemination of the Cuban Society of Medicine. It publishes numerated issues every trimester, as well as supplements and special issues dedicated to different scientific subjects of interest. It has an extensive publication scope. The Journal shall consider those papers related to internal medicine, public health, public health management, nursing, pedagogy of medical teaching and clinical specialties or those closely related to clinic.
Each issue is edited in an electronic version on the Journal webpage and on the Internal Medicine website at the Infomed portal. When each issue is published, subscribers to the Journal will receive a bulletin via email with details about the published papers.
The aim of the journal is to disseminate the scientific results of the involved professionals and the training of human resources for health in any part of the world, prioritizing our national territory.
On the Cuban Journal of Medicine, the authors are able to publish letters to the editor-in-chief and to the editor, editorials commissioned by the board, original articles, pedagogical articles, case presentations, points of view, position papers and analysis articles or essays, short communications, and any information deemed relevant and important for the development of the scientific activity within clinical sciences. This is an open access journal, allowing authors and readers to copy, reuse and distribute its contents, provided that authors are properly acknowledged and no commercial transactions are conducted with the papers. The Drafting Board reserves the right to insert modifications of style and/or delimitations, if necessary, always respecting the original content.
The Cuban Journal of Medicine may publish experimental or quasiexperimental studies in human beings if these studies are approved by the competent national regulatory bodies and registered on the Cuban Public Registry of Clinical Trials.
The Cuban Journal of Medicine meets all the certification requisites established for scientific-technological numbered publications as directed by the Ministry of Science Technology and the Environment of the Republic of Cuba. The Journal does not contain or accepts advertising or commercial materials. It does not take responsibility for the opinions of authors or accepts previously published papers or others under consideration of any other domestic or foreign journal Editorial Board. The publication rules can be consulted on the section Policies on Article Typesbefore submitting a paper.
Revision by experts helps the Director and the Editorial Board decide which articles are more appropriate to be published on the Journal, as well as it aids authors and the director to improve the quality of the papers to be published.
The articles submitted to the Cuban Journal of Medicine are reviewed by peers in a double-blind manner, through which neither the reviewer nor the author will have any data allowing them to identify each other. Special attention is paid to the established ethical norms in order to avoid conflicts of interest.
The Journal receives the collaboration of outside reviewers, not associated to the publishing house. All submitted manuscripts are forwarded to outside reviewers.
The Editorial Board will conduct a first revision to determine the relevance of the subject and if the manuscript meets the publishing criteria. In case of methodological deficiencies or lack of relevance of the subject matter, the manuscripts will be rejected.
The reception and registration of the manuscript is only the first step of the editorial process for its selection and it does not necessarily assure its acceptance for publication. The final decision is to be made exclusively by the Editorial Board, which reserves the right to select the manuscripts to be published, as well as to modify the texts regarding the writing style while respecting the original content of the papers. The selection of the material is based on the interest of most professionals in it, its scientific solidity, its originality, relevance of its information, its seriousness in approaching the subject matter, its drafting and its compliance with medical ethics. The assessment process of the manuscripts is fully automated; the author will receive and exchange with the Editorial Board, as well as follow up the evolution of the process, strictly via the electronic platform Open Journal System.
The manuscript is forwarded to two reviewers, who will have four weeks to conduct a revision. Once finished, the Editorial Board will review the results. In case of discrepancies, a third reviewer will be assigned to the manuscript.
Each manuscript is reviewed as per its respective revision guidelines based on the type of article. The said guidelines can be requested by the authors and reviewers. All observations and suggestions of the Editorial Board and reviewers will be sent to each author, who must reply at the earliest possible.
The decision of acceptance, acceptance with modifications or rejection is notified to the author by the editor. In case of rejection, the editor provides the author with the results of the assessment, including suggestions from the reviewers as to improvements that could be included on the article. In case of acceptance, the article will move on to the stage of editorial processing.
The maximum wait time for publishing an article after its acceptance will be of one year.
This journal provides immediate free access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater exchange of global knowledge.
Since 1962.
